Jenie Fawckner

A creative and rural upbringing has created an ongoing fixation with the colour, composition and natural beauty of the Australian Landscape.

This has proved to be a very strong base for the subject treatment in all of my work. I am consistently drawn to the freedom of mark making and love of texture and use this as an approach to form a large part of the artistic process in both my printmaking and painting. To take a simple or insignificant scene from my natural surroundings and present it artistically in a way that gives it relevance and appeal teaches me to stop and appreciate every little aspect of nature. My joy is in the creativity.....my endeavour is to share it.

Jenie grew up living and working on her parent’s sheep and cattle property in Central Western Queensland.

After completing her high school educationboarding at Brisbane Girls Grammar SchoolJenie then studied full time at The Queensland College of Art and graduated in 1990 with a degree in Fine Art (majoring in printmaking and minoring in painting). Jenie has practised art part time for many years and has been involved in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout her career. She has continued her part time art career whiletravelling, working, marrying, helping her husband run their cattle property and bringing up 4 children. In 2016 Jenie and her family moved to a little farm in the Darling Downs Region on the Great Dividing Range. Jenie is now a full time artist practising from her new studio and home based near Hampton North of Toowoomba Qld. Jenie paints and screen prints with a colour palette "in tune with the subtle and ever changing seasonal landscape around her". Jenie uses her exposure to the Australian landscape and field trips to evoke constant inspiration and ideas.
