Description:
"Springtime in Granada" translates real-life bouquet, objects, books and drapery into a three-dimensional woodcut artwork. Materiality stands as the cornerstone of my artistic exploration. This piece seeks to challenge the material contraints of plywood through the lense of still life. The artwork seamlessly blends various artistic disciplines by intentionally blurring the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and textile practices. I attempt to translate the intricate patterns, forms and textures found in plants, objects and drapery within a still life arrangement into plywood.
Beyond its visual appeal, "Springtime in Granada" serves as a gateway to societal reflections. Themes woven into the artwork include advocating for the significance of the handmade in a society dominated by ready-made commodities. "Springtime in Granada” is deliberate resistance against the prevailing culture of the readymade, and a subtle homage to feminism and feminist theory in contemporary art explored through embroidery. Through my meticulous process and deliberate material choices, "Springtime in Granada" initiates a dialogue that traverses the realms of the masculine and feminine, art and craft.
