Description:
As an artist working within the fragile medium of ceramics, my exploration revolves around the nuanced interplay of fragility, vulnerability, and strength. The juxtaposition of porcelain and fabric serve as a visual and tactile metaphor for the delicate balance of existence and allows me to create a dialogue between opposing forces.
The fragility of porcelain speaks to the ephemeral nature of life, while the fabric symbolises resilience and adaptability. By manipulating these materials into folds and layers, I emulate the textures of landscapes, echoing the natural beauty and imperfections found both in ourselves and in the world around us. I hope to provoke introspection and a renewed appreciation of the effects we individuals and generations have and had on each other and our fragile environment.
Central to my practice is the exploration of transparency both literal and metaphorical. The delicate translucency of porcelain exposes its vulnerability, inviting viewers to contemplate the fleeting moments of life and the impacts they have. At the same time, this transparency reveals the inherent strength and resilience that lies within fragility, mirroring the human capacity to endure and overcome vicissitude.
In essence, my work seeks to capture dichotomy of fragility and strength as it exists in the natural world and within ourselves.
