Description:
I am an average dancer' explores the movement and fluidity of dancing. The bold markings show loose movement paired with some deliberate 'steps' or brush strokes. This artwork is about how people balance letting themselves go and restraint. It references the abstract expressionism movement.
Colour is an essential factor in my work. I like to work with intense and non-naturalistic colours, sometimes pairing them with abstract landscapes or still life.
Little preparation goes into my work. Often, colours or shapes come to my mind randomly. I then use these as a base for my paintings. This piece started with three purple curved lines.
I love working with oil paint. This material and the creamy texture it produces excites me. I also revel in its lengthy dry time. I enjoy watching the paint dry and form. This means I rarely use mediums, preferring the thick globs of paint you get from raw oil paint and making impasto scribbles.
