Description:
This work refers to Madame de Pompadour, a lady of the French court and the chief mistress of King Louis XV. Known for her fashionable taste in culture and the arts and for wearing the colour pink, therefore making the colour widely popular. A shade of pink was named after her by The Sevres, a porcelain company. The work incorporates raw silk, which makes connections to the fabric of couture gowns in the 18th century.
The work forms part of a series of works, titled 'The PINK Effect', in which the colour pink is investigated for its influence and impact on culture throughout history.
