About the Artist
Deborah McLennan is an intuitive and self-taught artist. Deborah is interested in creating, not just a painting, but a painting with weight and salient presence. Deborah is deeply interested in the tension of soft and bold marks, the luminosity and vibration of colour and the relationship between drawing and painting. Her love of beauty is visceral. At her core Deborah sees the world, visible and invisible, through the lens of patterns.
Deborah sees her personal expression of art as a striving to push her own boundaries of creativity. Her foray into painting is a more recent discovery in her artistic development. Deborah wants her art to be paradoxical. Simplicity is key, yet not without depth and complexity. Her subject matters primarily focus on meditative interiors, the simple beauty of domesticity and wild florals. More recently, fuelled by her anticipated move to a bush block, she has been exploring the
trees and gullies of the land.
