About the Artist
We were very saddened to hear of the passing of gallery artist Tom Macbeth earlier this year. Tom's family have kindly donated one of Tom's paintings to the Cancer Council and we have agreed to match their generousity by donating our commission on this piece and Tom's other remaining gallery works also.
Tom is an award-winning artist whose practice spans over 25 years. Known for his strikingly photorealistic oil portraits he’s been a finalist in Australia’s most prestigious portrait prizes, including the Archibald Prize, the Lester Prize, The Kennedy Prize and the Brisbane Portrait Prize. Tom has painted many celebrated figures including Queen Mary of Denmark, Greg Norman, and Jessica Watson.
In contrast, his abstract works shift inward—layered, textural explorations of architecture, memory, and time. Balancing spontaneity with structure, these paintings invite quiet contemplation through their value contrasts, surface detail, and a refined sense of colour.
Most recently, Tom’s Good Vibes series reimagines the coastal landscape in crisp, stylised acrylics. These pared-back compositions—rooted in retro aesthetics and art deco geometry evoke stillness, solitude, and sunlit nostalgia, offering a serene yet sophisticated visual experience.
