Zoe Doland’s exhibition, The Sum of Parts, began with a phrase she found herself returning to again and again in the studio, and considering how it applies to both the human experience and human form.

Are we simply a collection of shapes and parts, or the accumulation of everything we have lived? The people we have loved, the moments we cherish, the parts we have lost, the pieces of others we carry with us…

Through fragmented figures, intimate scenes and sentimental objects, The Sum of Parts explores the many pieces that make us “whole” while considering the possibility that we, too, are each one small part of something much greater.
