About the Artwork:
My mum always enjoyed the simple things in life. Family was most dear to her and she loved the country of her birth, Malta. This little painting depicts a Maltese cookbook, which is not only filled with lovely food but also the wonderful sights and people of Malta. Mum loved cooking for her family. You could turn up at her house at anytime of the day and night and she would have a three course meal ready for you in no time. She loved blue and white crockery, especially traditional Willow but hardly ever used it in fear of it breaking! I loved painting this piece. Any moment that reminds me of my lovely mum is very precious.
About the Artist:
Inspiration comes readily for Michelle through the work of her favourite artists (Degas, Bonnard, Vuillard, Hopper, Vermeer, Matisse, Van Gogh, Gaugin, just to name a few!), particularly the colour in their work. “Colour brings joy, peace and happiness; colour is my everything. Oil on canvas is my preferred medium. It is thick and lovely, and I am able to work texturally and create some amazing colours that sing!” Flowers are also a constant source of inspiration and Michelle works only from fresh flowers that are in season. “I am always amazed at nature and how beautiful a flower or leaf can be.”
