About the Artwork:

Blue Heelers are born from work, instinct and devotion. There’s something in their gaze that never truly rests, and Sunrise on the Haystack captures that exact moment—lying still, yet fully alive, head lifted as if something has just stirred in the distance. Always on watch, always connected to their herd, even in stillness. I was drawn to this sense of quiet vigilance, and I wanted to honour it through expressive, layered brushwork that mirrors the breed’s internal energy. Cool purples and blues shape the form of the dog, softened with warm beige tones, while a bright yellow backdrop evokes the first light of sunrise—hopeful, vast and alive with possibility. The contrast between calm body and alert mind is where the painting breathes. My intention was to hold that tension between rest and duty, capturing a presence that feels eternal, watchful and deeply grounded in place and purpose.
