About the Artwork:
This painting is part of an ongoing series of paintings set around the table at parties and other social events. These works make us wonder about the relationships between the subjects. Are they friends? Family? Colleagues? Are they having a good time? Or are we glimpsing brief moments of tension, fatigue or boredom? The characters in these works encourage us to feel a sense of recognition, perhaps even a hint of nostalgia, for the social occasions that have shaped our own lives.
About the Artist:
Rebecca James creates figurative paintings centred on social gatherings, shared tables and the subtle dynamics between people. Her scenes are playful and observant, capturing moments of connection, tension and nostalgia.
