About the Artwork:
Dear M, D, F and V, Sometimes I can never find the right words. I find it hard to express my feelings, to break the barriers I have mentally built for myself. I think this comes from my own experiences growing up – I was the first-born, second generation Vietnamese immigrant in my family, so I felt like I always had to be the person everyone could rely on. I always had to be perfect, but I was far from it. I know I have a lot to unpack but perhaps that’s a story for another time. As you grew up, one thing I did differently compared to my own childhood (and I hope I did well) was that I encouraged you to speak your minds and to freely express your emotions. It is okay to not be okay. It is okay to feel how you feel but know that there will always be someone there for you and I know you will be there for someone too. Love always, Mum xo
