I made this painting whilst helping my Dad sort out his shed. He is a bit like me in that he likes to keep himself busy making. His shed is full of woodworking tools accrued over a life time, and they’re not usually well ordered. He knows where everything is of course, but I would say this was the first time all his planes were together in the same place. If you’re a wood worker, you’d know this is a pretty fancy collection. Even Dad was surprised – and a little impressed.
My father will be moving soon, leaving his shed behind. And I am planning to spend some time with him preparing his tools and equipment for sale.

Although this painting is a still life, I think of it as a portrait.
