Sue is from Cape Town, South Africa, where she grew up, completed schooling and went on to study Graphic Design. She worked in advertising and design in Cape Town, UK and Australia. She emigrated to Australia from Scotland in 1998 and has lived in the south west of West Australia since 2003. Sue started painting full time in 2015.

Sue is a realist representational still life painter whose work combines antique china and silver with more contemporary pieces. Sue paints from observation and each item painted is carefully selected and arranged. The power of these items lies in the repetition, memory and function that has remained unchanged over time. Sue’s focus on the objects, with lavish attention to detail, subtle nuances and pattern, while retaining the physical nature of the painting process, to some extent erases their function and creates an engaging visual narrative, as they are viewed for their inherent beauty and their relationship to the adjacent object.
