I wanted to capture that feeling and experience of chaos as the weather turns on a dime, one minute it's a peaceful sunny day and the next, apocalyptic winds, trees are flying and the cows are sideways!. Ive depicted them as animals here. As i've gotten older i've become more fascinated with the way humans interact with their surroundings, I wouldn't say I always like it, but it does fascinate me. Like many people i'm drawn to bodies of water, I find those spaces beautiful but it is bizarre to me that I'll find old oil cans, trash and someone out there seems to think \"what a beautiful lake...perfect place to do a dodgy insurance job on the old VW\", when that happens often enough people decide the place is ugly and then they move on to the next spot. It's funny in a bleak way and that's what i've tried to capture here, the perplexing interactions people have with beautiful spaces. At first I found seeing this confronting, but then I became more aware of the importance of the process and what it does for humans and also for animals and plants in the broader scheme of things. A large storm had a pretty damaging effect on the surrounding farms and an unfortunate casualty of this (i've named him Jim) was carried downstream passing two other cattle who were apparently very confused by this sight. I was curious about this as subject matter for a painting. I wonder if cows get confused by this type of thing? Like many of my landscapes this is based on a river somewhere towards the Blue Mountains. I like looking at how the water carves its way through the land around it, and i can always find beauty in the patterns and textures in the trees in the places I explore.
